De velocity of propagation factor is ook te berekenen. Ik dacht trouwens dat die in coax bepaald werd door de vertraging van dielectrische constante (en skindepth) maar niet dat het deze zelf is.
Deze term wordt namelijk ook gebruikt in niet coax-transmissielijn (dit verhaal heeft bv betrekking op 60 Hz hoogspanningslijn) en wordt omschreven als volgt:
the velocity of propagatrion of any EM disturbance in air is the same as that of light, namely 2.988x1010 cm/sec. The only difference for transmissionlines is that the conductor provides a guide. In terms of the constants of the line this velocity is equal to 1/wortel(C*L).
the disturbance in a medium of permittivity k varies inversely as the square root of the permittivity
Dan zijn er wat afleidingen en uitwerkingen waarvan de uitgebreidste hier denk ik niet leesbaar te typen is (de onderste)
1/wortel(C*L)=3x1010/wortel(k)=cm per seconde
1/wortel(((10-11(2)(10-9)log(2h/r)/18log(2h/r))
h=hoogte boven grond en r=radius geleider beide in zelfde eenheid
k=permittivity ofwel dielectric constant
De dielectric constant bepaald dus mede in deze formnule de snelheidsfactor dus kan het niet het zelfde zijn als de snelheidsfactor.
