Problem with DSP260

Hello to everyone,

I have problem with Dynacord DSP260 from my friend. DSP is turning on normaly and also working, but somethimes suddenly freezes (when pressing some combinations of buttons, for example tried to change contrast,...).

Connection with software (DSP editor), also isnt working. I can install it and it is showed in device manager. When program started they notice about flash upgrade, but when starts DSP freeze and upgrade is also cancelled.

I measured voltage and check for some caps, but everything seems ok.

I think there is something wrong with firmware, mybe someone before flashed it and went something wrong.

What do you think?

First, sorry for bad English, i'm a little bit dislectical from time to time.

I have all the software (DSP260 editor) and eventually the firmware for the AT91SAM7X64 controller. But i think the problem is a little bit easier to fix.

When installing the DSP260 software it comes with an own driver. It can be found in the installation directory of the software.
You need to replace the standard Windows driver with this driver.

When a DSP260 (or EV DC ONE) (randomly) freezes, it's 90% sure that caps C813 and C817 need to be replaced. Replace them for ESR types with the same capacity. And use a good brand, something like Panasonic FR caps. Sometimes cap C814 also needs to replace for ESR type. Hope this will help! Good luck!

First thank you for your help. Dont worry about English, I speak/write even worse ;-).

So we replaced all 3 caps, but situation is the same. DSP freezes after pressing some buttons.

DSP also freezes always, when I connect it to PC and start the program. Window about firmware update is showed, but DSP is already freezed.

About drivers, I installed like you said, and I can see DSP normaly in device manager.

I also think, that DSP freezes when LED D700 is turning off.

What do you think. Can you send me the firmware and tell me how to flash ARM. Which software and programmer do you use?

i see that you have the dsp with the smps power supply. the older models have an toroid transformer, maybe that dj johnny is used to get that model on the workbench. its possible that the psu itself gives out disortion/noise on the DC power en that makes the processor freezes.

yes, this one is with smps. We have checked output voltage and everything seems ok.

Did you use low-esr caps? Normal caps will give some problems. Also check caps on the smps. Even when they look fine its possible they are faulty. I have the firmware but i don't think thats the problem. Problem with the firmware always results in a non-booting complete dead device. I use a Segger Jlink device for programming.

yes caps are low esr. Brother also measured old caps and wasnt so bad. We will trie to change the caps on smps also. Visualy they look all ok, we also measured voltage and is stable.

So you think that the firmware is ok?

Do you mybe have schematic of DSP?

Just another question: what firmware version used your DSP260? When turning the device on it shows in the display. I believe latest version is 1.5 or 1.51.

today we changed almost all bigger (low esr) caps and nothing better. DSP hangs randomly, somethimes even at boot (with loading DSP data on display).

Do you mybe know what is function of LED D700? DSP always hangs when this LED is turning off.

There is no possiblity to connect software with DSP. I tried another computer, another USB cable and is the same.

Do you have any idea what to do, before we give up ;)?

At this point i do not have any clue's what wrong with it. I have repaired a lot of DSP260 and DC-one's, but never had one with this problem. Where do you live? If you give up, maybe i can buy them from you? I have a lot of these units in maintanance, but parts are very hard to get.

The LED's are to show if the microcontroller is functional.

I don't have the schematics, but is there a reset supervisor circuit in there? (7705 or something like that)
If so, maybe a resistor is cracked around that circuit which causes instable behaviour, I have had something similar in a an automotive board that also hung on random places.

I have a very bad experience with SMD resistors (see a post on another topic where I replaced 15 resistors on one board that were all bad, unbelievable but true).

Hello with fresh and good news ;),

first thank you to John and all others for helping me.

After changing almost "all" the parts (caps, quartz,...), I finaly flash arm and tada ;), DSP is working again.

It takes some time, because I must order j-link first :p, but it was worth it. waiting ;).
